I think he blends in existing pictures with his own painting skills. those buildings are super impressive man

thanks, yeah it's a model in a museum somewhere in Mexico, so i'm using it as a base to recreate the main city, the buildings are quite bland at the moment, so i'm going to detail them all, then add people and markets and bring it to life
