Thank you for joining this year's competition! It's been a while since the last one so we hope there will be lots of participation for this one. And therefore we are giving away a few special prizes to make it interesting this time around! Remember to have fun and enjoy yourselves, and good luck!

First Topic: An original character in scenery
For this topic we want to see your imagination stretch, whether your character or scene is simple or complex is up to you. You can show things like them interacting with objects or people around them, maybe just sitting down, but whatever you do, just make sure it’s a character in some sort of environment.

Second Topic: Personal Treasure
What do you hold near and dear? Maybe that stuffed animal you don’t tell anyone about? Your friends or family? A stamp collection? Collecting dead bugs? Your sketchbook? Show us what’s important to you.

Dates and Start/ End Times:
Both competitions last from April 10th to June 1st
Starting time is 00:00 (midnight, beginning of the day) Central European Summer Time (UTC+2). Ending time is 24:00 (midnight, end of the day) Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7).

Note: Your drawing must have been created after the competition started and must be published before the competition ends.

Example:
Watches
Topic:Treasure My dearest treasure is my watch collection because...

Determination of the Winners:
Both topics are broken down into two categories, single and collab. Just like to thank Hope, C0mBineD and Broglex for organising this competition, it was fun. The topics left plenty of room for interpretation and imagination, which is what I personally prefer.

Also, thank you for the individual critiques posted on the drawings, they were pretty helpful in their own right. I look forward to future competitions :D

This was fun to take part of, and it was organized very well.
Thanks Broglex for the critiques as well as setting this up with Hope & c0mbined.

I also appreciate the amount of time we were given, school does get pretty hectic in May/June. Might have been better holding the comp off till July and giving us 3 weeks, but doesn't really matter :]

Congratulations to all the winners!

Congrats to all the winners and a special thanks to brog, hope and c0mbined for organizing. Also, to brog, your critiques have been incredibly helpful and I appreciate the time you put in to write them up.

We're holding a small unofficial competition just for fun. All the details can be found at http://www.iscribble.net/.../drawing669963-Up-Up-and-Away.html

Congratulations, and thank you!
I'm super thankful to everyone who supported and prodded(read nagged my bum) me to my best-est, it'd been a casualty-heavy competition where I buried weaker ideas to make way for the better ones. THE ONE painting finally breathed in my privates and had amazing responses from you amazing people ; u; )/

Thank you all! LET US MEET AGAIN IN THE NEXT BATTLE!

Congratulations to the winners!! :)
I didn't have much time to go through the contest entries but I will do as soon as possible.

Also, THANK YOU very much to Hope, broglex and c0mBined for organizing this event. I really appreciate how much effort you all put into this. It was way more than tyb and I have expected.
I know that complaints aren't the most enjoyable part but I really think they show us how much people actually care about this site and the users, just as you did when you organized this event.
You tried your best making a fun and challenging competition for the users. You did a great job and in my opinion there is nothing to apologize about.

And thank you,Sayuta, for the russian translation!

I would like to see how many votes(judges and public) my drawings got if I may. And thanks for the competition~ I'm too lazy to whisper though. Why do you have to hate on us lazy people :'(

This is solely my opinion and does not reflect any others judges and definitely doesn’t represent the views of the website (iScribble) or any other moderator.

(Sorry, it's really long, if you want critiques or to know about your entry, skip to the bottom.)

I’ll just say it right off the bat: Overall, hosting this competition wasn’t enjoyable. I didn’t like doing it and I felt like I (we really, the three of us putting the whole thing together) got shit thrown at us at every turn. I realize that there were people that liked the competition, for some reason or another, but it felt like the loudest were those who didn’t. I’m not sure how much control anyone thinks us as moderators have over what happens with the website, but it’s very little. We aren’t able to change the site such as giving [/join] to people. For things like that, policy changes, we need to go through tyb, the creator of the site. This website is a free service provided to you, supported by the ads and dwindling donations. We, the mods and admins, have our own lives so we’re not able to accommodate all the people’s needs.

For this competition we tried to do something different, so sorry for trying to appeal to our large user base with relatively generic and rather open ended topics. Sorry for trying to give neat prizes that hadn’t been done before. Sorry for trying to change anything for the better for anyone. Sorry for thinking “Hey, I think the users would really like another competition!” Sorry for not living up to every single one of whatever your expectations were. Sorry for enforcing the rules of the competition, which might I add, have been pretty consistent through all of the competitions. Sorry thinking of the users and what everyone might want. I’m apologizing because I’m guessing that’s what people want to hear for hosting a competition.

I have no idea what other competitions were like; this was my first time doing it. I have no idea why there was the need to protest this competition, in turn holding us accountable, for something we have absolutely no control over. This was something C0mBy, Hope and I did, we planned it all, what we didn’t do, and literally are unable to do, it set up the web pages and initiate the voting times and anything that has to do with physically (You know what I mean) changing the site. Entries that broke the rules were disqualified, we had the whole page translated by Sayuta for Russian users that had trouble with English. We tried our best to hold something that we thought users would enjoy. I really appreciate those that have said kind words or offered constructive criticism.

Hell if I know I want to host another competition or not, really not an enjoyable experience.

Side note: I did a lot of critiques (About 12 pages worth in MS Word) on entries because I think it’ll help people, if you want a critique then please whisper me and I’ll do it. Or if you want a critique taken down, I’ll gladly do that too (Sorry for causing the trouble then). If you also want to know about the public votes your entry got or how many points we (the judges) gave to your entry, whisper me and I’ll send that to you as soon as I am able.

Can you post who made the top 20 ?? :D

Commented by broglex: I didn't really count to Top 20 for each topic but I did for Top 10, if you want to know where your entry placed or how many points we scored it for, just whisper me and I can send it to you ASAP along with how many stars your entry got in the public voting.

Moderators do not have the power to directly control the date/frequency of competitions currently. This feedback while understood, is not very helpful. :)

Ahh was fun ¦3. I agree, more competitions would be nice. I don't mind long competition dates because it allows me to procrastinate ahaha.

I wonder if there could be a speed competition, like only boards that are created in less than one hour can participate.

There was an unofficial competition with the horse that was met with mixed results as well lol. An annual iScribble competition would be nice, with a lot of baby competitions (maybe these don't have the award tokens) to pad it out.

Congrats everyone and TY mods for hosting competition.

I wanted to say a a few things regarding the competition.
First off, it's very exciting that iscribble is having a competition it's been a long time since the last one. Some of the previous competitions have been fun and it makes iscribble have more of a sense of community to have them.

In regards to future competitions here are some suggestions:

-More robust topic choices
(A lot of users I know really had a hard time grasping these concepts, while these concepts are great for a more amateur crowd I think there can be a lot more deviation here)

-Shorter competition time
(2.5 weeks pre competition, 60 days competition, weeks long voting period, another weeks long voting period for mods all adds up. other sites I've seen do weekly competitions or even a few days. You can achieve this by simply having more competitions, so if you miss out on one, no big deal.)

-More competitions
(Meryl is a moderator on a site called doodlebug, they have competitions either daily or every few days. In terms of helping an artist grow having these to work on is a huge motivating factor. how cool would it be for iscribble to have a mini comp every week, or even every few days?)

-Joke entries
(the whole idea of an art piece being good based on how perfect the lines are and how much time was spent on it is in my opinion also not true to how real art is.My friends and I joke.. why bother to enter the comepitition unless you are going to do a nearly photorealistic entry. Art on iscribble seems to be judged by how perfect the lines art, as opposed to what I believe to be the most important things to look for in art. Does it make you feel, does it make you think, does it make you laugh?
If you visit an art gallery there are very imperfect pieces that fall into these catagories. Yet on iscribble that seems ot be lost. Hence the huge outpouring of people who want a DQ because they feel significant time was not spent on it, or it was not up to their standards.
Some of the joke entries met my definition of good art, by making me think, feel and, laugh. Much more so than some of the entries that people spent time on.)

Again thanks for running this, and hope to see more soon.

Commented by broglex: I agree, looking back I would've chosen different topics. Second one, reason it was so long is because a lot of people were starting to end school and what not so we wanted to give plenty of time for tests. Definitely want more competitions, probably going to try and do them relatively more often anyway. Winning entries that weren't even close to photorealistic: "The Great Worm" "I Swear That Butterfly is Evil" "Starlit Companionship" "Tomorrow Never Dies" "Follow That Machine!" Others tended to lean toward realism, yes, but also branched into other art categories.

Are all moderators required to evaluate and pick the winning pieces? If not, then how many are allowed to judge?

Or am I wrong in asking about the number of moderators judging, and should be asking about how long the judging period is instead?
'

Commented by Hope: Not very long, and not very many moderators (as technically moderators could participate in the competition if they'd like - not the ones judging of course). We just had to work around some school/time issues. Results should be available fairly soon :)

Is there a way for us the understand how the judging process is done? Such as:
Do the mods get the final say of what is accepted regardless of the votes cast by users?
if not
How much weight does a mod have in judging over the votes cast?
Commented by broglex: Ok, sorry for making it so confusing in the first place, it's a learning experience so I know next time make it less convoluted sounding. Anyway: So the users pick their favorites in a topic (By this I mean like "Character" overall, not "Character Single" and "Character Collab" seperately) through the voting, which was just done. Then we get to see what the user base's favorite entries were, then we take those and we decide the top 5 winners for each topic. While we, the judges, determine the bulk of who the prizes are given to, there is also the Public Overall for each topic (One for "Character" and one for "Treasure" ). This is the prize equivalent of first place and is the directly decided by the users and has no input from the judges, each topic has one of these. Does that answer your question? If not I can try and make it less... wordy. I really dunno how to explain it easily :S

Commented by Hope: Aka the public (voters) pick some but judges select the majority of winners. ..ta-da.. lol

Okay what I got out of that was Users pick 2. And mods pick 10. Not complaining was just curious.

ok cool :)

if there was an option to see all entries in a slide-show it would be very awesome, for it is annoying to click and view a drawing and turn back and click on another :d
Commented by broglex: But that would take away from the fun! ... I think I defined fun wrong. Oh well! Technically though, you could just open each drawing in an individual tab then close the tab when you're done looking at it to go to the next one :D You're welcome.

If we submit the drawing before the ending date but have not completed a proper description, are we allowed to add the description about the entry after the ending date for the publication? Will it still be counted and valid?
Commented by broglex: I would imagine so, we won't be like "ROAR YOU'RE DISQUALIFIED" for editing the description as long as it doesn't violate the rules. Unless you are physically unable to edit it or you're going to put in something at violates the rules, go for it.

haha, alright. thank you

Please make sure that you are publishing your drawings correctly. This means reading (and rereading) how you should publish your drawings. After publishing CHECK and see if your drawing is in the right location (i.e. on the contest page and not in category proposal or fun doodles. Failure to publish correctly, which may result in loss of anonymity, may result in your disqualification.Common guys! not that hard!

I really urge users to read the rules for this contest! Too many people are making their entries hybrid. It states CLEARLY in the rules just above: "Anonymity: Your drawing must stay anonymous. Create it in a private board. Do not sign your drawing or otherwise give concrete hints of your identity (name, initials, logos, etc.). Do not keep a copy of the drawing in
